Overwhelmed? Underwhelmed? Or just Whelmed?
Take a moment to breathe. Follow this delightful pufferfish's example and practice box breathing: 5 seconds in, 5 seconds out. Breathe in through your nose, puffing your belly like the fugu, stretching your diaphragm. Breath out of your mouth, as if through a straw, for another 5. Let's try it together.
After relaxing with a breathing exercise, reconnect in this moment using the 5-4-3-2-1 grounding method.
Sitting in your relaxed state, take in your surroundings. Name off 5 things you can See. Choosing one of those items, take a moment to look at it with intention, describing it to yourself in detail.
Now, list 4 things you can Hear. Choose one as a focus and describe why that sound stuck out to you.
Find 3 things you can Touch and describe their texture. Take the time to focus on one and how it feels to your fingertips.
Nearly done, find 2 things you can Smell, whether it is an air freshener or the gum in your mouth.
And finally, name 1 thing you can Taste. If you have the opportunity, take it into your mouth, focusing on the mouthfeel, its temperature, and flavors.
